I was very keen to try and restore and incorporate the original dial switch on the front rather than replace it with a retro inline one.

The lamp comes with a beautiful 3M long twisted fabric gold flex as standard.

The main body of the vintage UV lamp removed and all components stripped from it ready for a gentle clean and polish.

The original workings of the lamp produced quite a lot of residual heat. The side vents were pressed into the steel body allow cool air to flow around the coils and cool the workings.​

Early in the conservation process the lamp is separated into it's constituents parts for an assessment of what can be saved. The brown parts are bakelite, and the cream parts pressed and painted steel.

The original porcelain and brass lampholder has also passed electrical testing and was retained. A modern LED spiral lamp bulb compliments the lamp perfectly

Bakelite was a very versatile much used product of the era. Plastic was yet to be invented. This photo shows a damaged section of the bakelite.
